Better workforce planning needed as nurses warn of perfect storm

The Royal College of Nursing has warned that nurses are facing a perfect storm on staffing levels.

This is the latest stark warning from NHS staff who are struggling under enormous pressure. Nurses keep many NHS services running and are at the forefront of patient care. The shortages we are seeing are only going to get worse if the Scottish Government does not get serious about supporting the health service.

The SNP cannot continue letting NHS staff down.

The Scottish Government and health boards need to work together to ensure the NHS is getting the staff that it needs. Lib Dems have called for ministers to publish an annual report on workforce planning and give MSPs the chance to debate it.

This report shows clearly why this extra level of scrutiny is required.
