I've written to the convener of the Health and Sport committee, Neil Findlay MSP, to request that the Cabinet Secretary for Health appear before committee members as soon as possible to respond to a crushing new report from Audit Scotland.
The report which was published today concluded that major challenges lie ahead for the NHS, with funding not keeping pace with increasing demand and cost pressures, “unprecedented” budget cuts for NHS Boards and flawed workforce planning.
The Royal College of GPs insist that we will be more than 800 GPs short by 2020.
Seven out of eight key performance targets have been missed.
It is essential that the Cabinet Secretary for Health answer for this crushing report by appearing before the committee for a full cross examination as soon as humanly possible.
The horror show contained in the Audit Scotland report demonstrates the failings in the Scottish Government’s approach to our NHS over the last nine years and there can be no excuse for it dodging scrutiny on this issue.
