Ministers must work with Glasgow NHS to protect services

The board of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) have approved a consultation on plans that would see maternity units and other NHS facilities shut their doors.

The health board can consult all they want, but it is not hard to imagine the sort of response that they will get to plans that would see doors shut at hospitals and maternity units across Greater Glasgow. We have already seen protests over these savings plans.

Our NHS needs to be able to take decisions based on what is best for patients, not simply what is cheapest.

NHS GGC are facing a financial black hole and are clearly stuck between a rock and a hard place. There is only so far they can make their money go and we need Ministers to work with GGC to ensure that resources are in place to protect services wherever possible.
