Odds of beating cancer must improve

I've called on the Scottish Government to ensure that resources are focused on reducing cancer in deprived areas after new statistics showed mortality rates are 64% higher than  in the least deprived areas.

The new statistics, published by ISD Scotland, also showed incidence rates are 31% higher.

It is unacceptable in this day and age that if you live in a deprived area then you far more likely to die from cancer than if you live in an affluent area.

From raising awareness of the risks, to encouraging screening uptake and adding to the resources of GPs, The Scottish Government needs to focus resources on reducing health inequalities and improving the odds of beating cancer for those from poorer backgrounds.
