I've called on the SNP to act to improve cancer waiting times after new figures show that targets have been missed again.
Figures show that between April and June 89.7% of patients started treatment within the 62 day standard, a decrease from 90.2% in the previous quarter. Only two NHS boards met the 95% target.
Waiting times have been getting progressively worse since October 2014 and last quarter we saw the performance against the standard drop below 90% for the first time. It is concerning that only two NHS Boards met the target.
These statistics are more than just numbers, they are individuals who along with family and friends will be experiencing anxiety while they wait for the treatment they need.
Cancer continues to be one of the biggest killers in Scotland. Early diagnosis and treatment save lives, it is that simple.
These figures suggest that health boards are still not getting the support they need to get waiting times down.
SNP Ministers must set out how the new cancer strategy will address the challenges that services are still facing."
