Troubled NHS 24 IT system must finally deliver

The Scottish Government confirmed it would re-start the roll out of their NHS IT system this summer.

The £117 million IT and call handling system was originally due to be ready for October 2013. It was launched in October 2015 but crashed within hours, causing staff to resort to pen and paper and then the old system.

The Scottish Government has announced that full implementation will be completed by the end of 2017.

We will hold Parliament to account and make sure we are told if there is any indication this is at risk or if the reboot isn’t going to plan

After years of delay, overspending and a serious false start, it is time staff and patients finally begin to receive the benefits this troubled IT system promised.

However, protecting patient safety must be paramount during the re-launch. We will hold Parliament to account and make sure we are told if there is any indication this is at risk or if the reboot isn’t going to plan.
