Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesman Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP today warned that the devil will be in the detail as the First Minister announced proposals to put minimum staffing levels in the NHS on a statutory basis.
Following Nicola Sturgeon’s speech at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) conference, Mr Cole-Hamilton said:
"Whether we are talking about nurses, midwives, consultancy posts or GPs, there are staffing shortages right across our NHS.
"We know that NHS staff are under huge pressure but unless this commitment is underpinned by increased investment and gives power to the professionals, not officials in Bute House, it is hard to see how this will deliver the support that our health service needs. The devil will be in the detail."
