Following the interest generated around his family when local Lib Dem MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton had to resuscitate his 4 year old daughter when she swallowed a coin, Alex organised 3 pop-up first aid training events in West Edinburgh to offer people the opportunity to get basic life saving skills. In total, over 40 local people were trained by local volunteers in first strike emergency care.
Alex said: “When Darcy stopped breathing, a first aid course I’d completed 25 years ago while learning to Scuba dive snapped back into focus. After she recovered, so many people got in touch to wish us well, but also to say that they wouldn’t have known what to do.
"I wanted to use the interest in our family to raise awareness of first aid and to get more people into training. I’m delighted at how successful these events were and plan to host more across the constituency in the near future.”
