Over 80,000 Scots are now thought to be suffering from Long Covid, with many unable to work or even leave home due to the debilitating effects of the condition.
Scotland has lagged behind England which has offered sufferers access to specialist clinics and a care pathway. Local MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton finally forced the government to take the issue seriously and has won several commitments after he tackled the First Minister about this in Parliament.
Alex said: “Long Covid could well be the biggest mass disabling event since the First World War, it is ruining the lives of adults and children alike.
“I was astonished the SNP health secretary had refused to meet with Long Covid Scotland despite them asking again and again. I’m glad that they will finally meet with sufferers and hopefully act on their demands.”
