Local MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton has raised the plight of new parents, many of whom spent lockdown shielding, with the First Minister. In England, new parents can form support bubbles with other new parents, but in Scotland they are denied this.
Alex recently held a virtual coffee morning for over 50 parents and their babies to discuss the problems they face. Alex said: “The mental health of new parents has take a real hammering in lockdown. Most new mums will have spent the first lockdown shielding and are now denied the support networks of other new parents, friends and families. If they could bubble up with other new parents or another supportive relationship, that could make all the difference.”
