Local Lib Dem MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton has received widespread praise for forcing the Scottish Government to bring forward a national ‘Falls and Fractures’ Strategy to reduce falls among older people and other vulnerable groups. On three occasions he secured a Parliamentary majority to defeat the government on this issue.
Alex has been campaigning for a Falls Strategy since he chaired the National Older People’s Assembly, which revealed that fear of falling was the greatest concern of older people in Scotland.
“Dealing with falls and fractures represents a huge burden to the NHS, but the fear of falling has a massive impact on social isolation, with many choosing not to leave the house if they are unsteady on their feet and don’t have confidence in local roads and pavements.
"We need this strategy to address the risk of falling in every part of our communities so we can get people out and about and on their feet again.”
