Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP has today urged the Health Secretary to give health professionals “a break this Christmas” and ease their workload, after another poor week of A&E performance figures were published this morning.
Official figures released today show performance against the 4-hour waiting time target sits at 87.4%. The Scottish Government’s target is 95%. This has not been achieved since July 2017.
The weekly figures also show 286 patients waited over 8 hours and 48 patients waited over 12 hours.
Alex Cole-Hamilton said:
“Once again the Scottish Government’s A&E performance has fallen. More patients are waiting too long for help.
“Doctors, nurses and those out and about in our communities delivering care need a break this Christmas. The Health Secretary needs to give them the resources and the staffing support to make that possible.
“The SNP’s mismanagement has taken its toll. Patients and staff have every right to demand better in 2019.”
