Local MSP for Edinburgh Western, Alex Cole-Hamilton has visited a calisthenics gym as it launches in Edinburgh Park. The Charity “Edinburgh Park Leisure” have launched the pilot project to encourage people from all communities to find the benefits of bodyweight fitness, improve their physical and mental health with no charge or membership required.
Alongside gold medallist Steve Frew, Alex visited the new gym, and commented:
“I am delighted to see this outdoor gym opening in Edinburgh Park. I’d encourage anyone to come along and try it out. Gym memberships can be costly and our health is so important there shouldn’t be a financial reason stopping anyone from improving their fitness. One of the benefits of using your own bodyweight for exercise is the equipment is easy to understand. It is nice to be able to exercise with friends again, and so many people have suffered poor mental health in the past year of lockdowns, and we know exercise is such a powerful natural mood improver. I wish this charity every success with this project.”
