Impact of bridge closure 'worse than recession' on South Q'Ferry

In order to assess the impact of continuing disruption to travel plans throughout the East Coast caused by the ongoing closure of the Forth Road Bridge, Lib Dem candidate Alex Cole-Hamilton and Scottish Lib Dem Leader Willie Rennie visited local businesses in South Queensferry this morning.

Speaking after the visit, Alex said:

"I was staggered by how quiet the high street was. This was reflected in the despondent attitude of local business owners, one of whom suggested to me that the impact on local trade had been worse than the recession.

"It is vital that we get things moving as quickly as possible, particularly in terms of any kind of compensation package for affected  businesses.

"South Queensferry is one of the most beautiful communities in Scotland. It is renowned for its boutiques and range of independent retailers. It is very much open for business, but we need to do more to support it."
