The SNP have ditched a promise to reduce the working hours of junior doctors.
This U-turn by the Scottish Government flies in the face of the promise they made to doctors during the last election. Junior doctors can work 100 hours between days off. It is a demanding job at the best of times. Few people could do their job to the very best of their ability in these circumstances.
Working long shifts on a regular basis, not to mention the time it takes to get to and from work, is bad news for junior doctors and their patients. Their safety is paramount.
Instead of shelving their promises to stretched junior doctors, SNP Ministers should get on with giving them the support they need and ending the NHS recruitment crisis.
