Speaking in response to the publication of a Scottish Government audit of service rejections by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services the health spokesperson for the Scottish Liberal Democrats Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:
“The report is a real shocker. We knew that fewer young people are being seen by the mental health service. This report says that those rejected don’t know where they stand.
“The Scottish Government must act fast given it is years behind on this.
“When families realise there is a problem and take the brave step to try to get help they deserve better.
“Young people must not be left in limbo, unsure about where they can get help.
“The new mental health minister needs to tackle this. She also needs to set out new safeguards so that people do not fall in the gap between services when they reach the age of 18."
