Pressure on A&E increasing

I've called on SNP Ministers to give doctors and nurses on the frontline the support they need as new weekly A&E statistics revealed the worst performance against waiting time targets since March.

In the week ending 9th October, 1964 patients presenting at A&E waited for more than 4 hours to be seen. This is 7.4% of all patients. 130 patients were forced to wait more than 8 hours. This is the highest number facing a wait of this length since May.

These are the worst weekly A&E performance statistics that we have seen since the 27th March.Winter is coming and pressure on doctors and nurses working on the front line of our NHS is only going to get worse.

The flagship QEUH in Glasgow is still clearly facing big challenges in delivering sustained improvement against waiting time targets, despite specialist support. Other sites are struggling to meet targets too.

SNP Ministers cannot afford to simply cross their fingers and hope for the best. Doctors, nurses and patients need extra support now.
