Pupils with CPR skills make their communities safer

Commenting on the news that every pupil in Scotland is to be taught life-saving CPR skills at school, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

“This is fantastic news. Basic first aid skills will set our young people up for life.

“I hope that these pupils are never put in the situation where they need to perform CPR, but they make their families, friends and communities safer by having the skills to do so if they have to.

“After the frightening experience I had when I had to resuscitate my daughter and the worries other parents subsequently shared with me, I’m going to be holding a round table with first aid charities to see if we can build a strategy to increase emergency first aid training for citizens at all stages of life in Scotland.

“Everybody should be seeking to brush up their emergency response knowledge so they’re ready to save a life.”
