Scot Tories must push back against GP Brexit threat

As Ruth Davidson visits the University of Edinburgh medical school, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP has called on the Scottish Conservative leader to instruct her MPs to oppose any Brexit deal which doesn't include an NHS passport for EU citizens.

Mr Cole-Hamilton said:

“Scotland’s GP surgeries are underfunded and talented medics are leaving the profession, many of whom feel undervalued. Strangely, the Conservatives seem perfectly happy to compound the SNP’s mismanagement by choosing not ruling out the possibility of a hard Brexit that would deprive our NHS of essential staff.

"The callous approach of Ruth Davidson's party is already making nurses and doctors feel unwelcome when they have come here to improve our health.

“The simple truth that the Tories want to avoid discussing is that Health and social care services could not function without existing EU staff and access to the pool of talent we are currently able to recruit from.

"If Ruth Davidson is serious about saving our surgeries, she should instruct her MPs to secure an NHS passport to guarantee the right to remain of EU citizens working in these practices and across the NHS and oppose Theresa May's final deal if this isn't included."
