Minutes of the meeting of NHS Lothian’s board specifically overseeing the Sick Kids project revealed there were over 2,000 snagging issues identified at the hospital earlier this year.
“What’s clear from this report is that officials were aware of the myriad of problems facing them months before they pulled the plug on the Sick Kids’ opening. This has been an extremely poorly managed project.
“For patients, parents and NHS staff waiting to make the move to the new hospital the picture gets bleaker and bleaker.
“Tens of millions of pounds of public money are being wasted on sorting out these mistakes and the Sick Kids will lie empty as a ghost hospital for at least another year.
“It is vital that the public inquiry can now move forward in a way that complements and does not further delay the opening of the Sick Kids hospital. Public trust must be urgently restored.”
