Responding to the publication of the Scottish Government’s Diet and Healthy Weight Delivery Plan, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:
“Obesity puts a serious strain on our NHS. Moves to tackle the stubborn Scottish diet, curb our nation’s love of fatty, salty and sugary foods and discourage multi-buys are good news.
“The Scottish Government has claimed to be focusing on this for the two years I’ve been an MSP but still we’ve seen no meaningful change. Hopefully new leadership in the health portfolio will bring a new energy to this task, because hundreds of millions of pounds are spent each year treating conditions that are ultimately avoidable.
“We need healthy weight initiatives that permeate every aspect of life in Scotland. This means making our streets more walkable, active travel more sustainable and healthy food more easily available.”
